Registry Repair | Associations
AssociationsDescription It presents a list of file types (identified by extension) that are registered in the system. The list is used by the Windows shell to decide what actions are possible for a particular file, which software is supposed to carry out the action, and where on the computer that software is located (the path). Besides, file associations store information on what icon will be displayed for a particular file and some other information used by the system. Cause Incorrect uninstalling or an error during the uninstalling process can result in invalid registry entries. The file associations registered to the program may remain in the registry, while the program itself has been removed. Result Registry entries associated with the removed program may result in incorrect operation of the Windows shell. Incorrect association may prevent system from assigning a new, valid application to the file (extension).
